As some of you may know one of our faculty members Mr. Scanlon has recently been diagnosed with ALS. ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS eventually leads to people losing the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.
As a show of support for Mr. Scanlon, we are holding a fundraiser to help raise funds for ALS research and treatment in Mr. Scanlon’s name. At halftime, during the homecoming game, we will hold a large ice bucket challenge as a show of support for Mr. Scanlon in his fight against this terrible disease. You can donate to a teachers bucket who is participating, all teaches have a goal of raising $ 50 and the teacher with the most money will have the smallest amount of ice water dumped on them and the teacher with the least amount of money will have a giant bucket of ice water. Students can also participate in the ice bucket challenge during halftime by donating $ 5 or more and signing up at lunch or in room C338. We would like a big show of support for Mr. Scanlon by having as many teachers and students participating as possible during the halftime ice bucket challenge.

Freshman – Upward Bound will be coming to present to 9th grade students today during 3rd period. Please sign up in your academy office if you wish to attend and obtain details.
Juniors and Seniors – MEFA will be coming to Worcester Technical High School on November 1st at 6pm to provide information on financial aid and financial planning for college to parents and students. Please sign up in your academy office if you would like to attend.
Attention Skiers and Snowboarders! There will be a mandatory meeting next Wednesday (10/10) directly after school in room C309 for anyone interested in the Wachusett Mountain Ski and Snowboard program. This is for both experienced skiers and snowboarders as well as beginners looking to learn. Equipment and lessons are available.
If you cannot attend the meeting see Mr. Belsito during 8th period in Room 310 (P & D) as soon as possible to pick up paperwork.
Writing club is today in room C340 from 2:00pm -2:45pm. Supplies will be provided.
Speech and Debate club with Ms. Hardy is cancelled this week.
Please note, the outdoor club has to postpone the scheduled meeting for today, October 4th. They will reschedule the cooking workshop for Thursday, October 18th.
The Worcester Tech drama club will be meeting on Tuesday, October 9th, afterschool in the auditorium. All students are welcome. Returning members bring your monologues! Any questions, please see Mr. Gemme.
Congratulations to the girls’ soccer team for their 3-0 victory over Burncoat yesterday. Goal scorers were Bailey Sullivan, Ayanna Cordova, and Genevieve Rivers. Safiya Nafai had the shutout in net.
