School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project

On Thursday, October 8, consultants from Dillinger Research and Applied Data released "Scenario 3" proposals for the ongoing School Boundary and Quadrant Alignment Project.

A formal presentation will be made this Tuesday, October 13, at 6:00 PM, during a meeting of the Worcester School Committee's Operations and Governance Committee, which will be held at Vernon Hill Elementary School, 211 Providence Street.

The public is encouraged to attend; view public meeting and forum schedule.

Please note that no decisions have been made.

Additionally, the updated scenarios do not eliminate proposals made in earlier scenarios. All options are under consideration.

Key Proposed Changes from Scenarios 2 to 3:

  • School assignment boundaries would change throughout the city. Please review the Comparison Map to observe the potential school assignment adjustments.

  • Elementary school space capacities revised per reorganization of preschool and special education sub-separate seats

  • Middle and high school capacities revised due to additional feedback from school principals

  • Students attending Francis McGrath Elementary would move to Forest Grove Middle School in the Doherty Quadrant then Burncoat High School in the Burncoat Quadrant.

  • Greendale Head Start’s potential relocation to the South Quadrant would occur closer to 2032 to create a new elementary school in the Burncoat Quadrant due to the anticipated increase of students in that area. Goddard Elementary School in the South Quadrant may expand seats for preschool and behavioral programming

  • Rice Square Elementary would keep grade 6 students instead of sending them to Worcester East Middle School in the event of construction to expand classroom capacity.

The final scenario of proposals will be presented to the Worcester School Committee and Worcester Public Schools administration in December. At that time, the administration and School Committee will evaluate which options are feasible to move forward with.
