Construction Craft Laborer

Overview

The Construction Craft Laborer program prepares students for a diverse range of  roles in the construction industry.  Students receive an introduction to various building trades, including carpentry, electricity,  masonry, plumbing, welding, glazing, and plastering while acquiring skills related to workplace safety, blueprint  reading, working with construction materials and concrete, and the safe handling of hazardous materials. 

Cooperative Education and Internship Opportunities

All eligible students have the opportunity to participate in Cooperative Education and Internship experiences at a variety of approved learning sites across the city in their junior and/or senior year.  While the requirements and specific opportunities vary from school to school, and program to program, the structured combination of classroom based education and practical work experience provides students with the skills necessary to comfortably navigate the world of work.

Career Opportunities

The construction industry remains a major growth industry, with plentiful jobs in building construction, highway and land development, utilities projects, and environmental projects such as hazardous materials removal and erosion control.
