Junior and senior students from various Worcester public high schools volunteered as ballot supervisors on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5.

The history department at each high school identified, encouraged, and recruited students to participate in this civic engagement initiative. These students then underwent specialized training provided by the City Clerk's Office, where they learned the skills necessary to serve as poll workers.

Students had the opportunity to see democracy in action, understand the importance of fair and organized elections, and appreciate the critical role poll workers play in ensuring the integrity of the voting process.

“It's important for young people to understand the role of poll workers as they can become a gateway into things like civil engagement, community service, and combating misinformation,” said student volunteer Thomas Sutton, a senior at Burncoat High School.

This experience aimed to empower the youth to become more informed and engaged citizens, fostering a lifelong commitment to participation in civic and community affairs.
